The Town Hall museum Kolhapur was erected during the years of 1872-1876 by Charles Mant. This is the only architectural building to exhibit Neo-gothic architecture. The town hall has a museum which displays items of the Satavahana period, such as figures of Poseidon, Greek God, elephant riders and a medley of Hellenistic figures. There are seven corridors or galleries, each dedicated to archaeological relics such as metallic artefacts, sculptures, ivory filigree, sandalwood work, weapons, paintings, old coins and photos. Information and photos of historic monuments, places, customs and traditions of Kolhapur city are also on display in this museum. The area around the museum holds some rare species of flora that adds to the beauty of the site. We would be going through the museum’s galleries one by one, and we will get to discuss the stories behind the artefacts. We would also discuss the history of the city through the artefacts.
